Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 9, 2026
Your files never leave your browser.
All Base64 encoding and decoding on Base64 Files happens locally in your browser via your device's built-in Web APIs. We cannot access your files and never receive or store anything you convert.
Overview
Base64 Files is a browser-based developer tool. All file encoding and decoding operations run locally on your device using the browser's built-in Web APIs. Your files and any Base64 content generated from them are never sent to our servers, read by us, or stored anywhere outside your device.
How We Handle Your Files
- All conversions (file → Base64, Base64 → file) run locally in your browser.
- Your files are not uploaded to any server for any purpose.
- Base64 output generated by the tools is not transmitted, logged, or stored.
- Once you close or navigate away from the page, any file data in memory is immediately discarded.
Data We May Collect
When you visit this site, server infrastructure and analytics tools may automatically collect the following information:
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device type
- Pages visited and time spent
- Referring URL (how you arrived at the site)
- Approximate geographic location (country or city level, inferred from IP address)
- IP address (used for security and abuse prevention, not linked to personal identity)
This data is collected in aggregate form to understand and improve how the site is used. It is not used to identify individual users.
Cookies and Local Storage
The site may use cookies or browser local storage for functional purposes, such as remembering your preferred output format or interface settings. We may also integrate third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics) that set their own cookies. You can manage or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Disabling cookies does not affect the core file conversion functionality.
Third-Party Services
We may use the following third-party services to support site operations:
- Analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics) — to understand traffic and usage patterns
- CDN providers (e.g. Cloudflare) — to deliver the site quickly and securely
- Advertising networks — we may display ads in the future to support the continued operation of this free service
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We have no control over how third parties handle data they collect independently.
Advertising
Base64 Files is a free tool. To support ongoing development and server costs, we may display ads in the future. Advertising networks may use cookies to show relevant ads. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your browser settings or industry opt-out tools such as NAI.
Data Retention
Because we do not store your files or Base64 output, there is no user-generated content to retain or delete. Aggregate analytics data (page views, browser statistics, etc.) may be retained for up to 24 months before being automatically deleted.
Children's Privacy
This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We recommend checking this page periodically.
